The school is aware of the adverse weather conditions in Kent and Northern France and is in contact with the coach company and tour operator. We are advised by them both that it is safe for us to travel on Thursday night and so intend to do so. We will obviously continue to take appropriate advice and hope to make a final decision on Thursday afternoon. In the meantime we have been advised that every child should bring a blanket and flask of hot drink with them and be dressed appropriately for the conditions (several warm layers) including wearing sturdy walking shoes. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

The Year 12 Abbeyfield students are holding a fashion show in school on Thursday 14th March from 6.30-8pm in aid of Oxfam. This is to raise awareness of the specialist wedding, prom dress and suit department based at the Chippenham store, which is available by appointment only. All of the model's clothes will be from the store and available to buy afterwards either on the night or at a later date in store. Many of the clothes are brand new and in beautiful condition, which have also been kindly leant on occasion to our A Level Photography students to borrow for photo shoots towards their coursework.
The evening also offers an art and photography exhibition, free drinks and canapés provided by the year 10 caterers, live music and a beauty station offering free manicures!
All are welcome and encouraged to attend to support our students and enjoy the event all for £1 entry fee on the door. Who knows.... your dream dress could be waiting for you!

NEW SPONSOR FOR ABBEYFIELD SCHOOL
This week governors of Abbeyfield School in Chippenham voted unanimously for the school to take Academy status with the support and sponsorship of The Education Fellowship.
This sponsorship will see Abbeyfield being able to move from strength to strength ensuring all pupils achieve maximum potential.
Mr Johnson Kane, co-founder TEF, said: "having spent time with the team at Abbeyfield over the past few months, I have been so impressed with the quality and commitment of staff, governors and children. With the additional resources and commitment of TEF we can secure stability which in turn pursues excellence".
Michele Blain, Chair of Governors at Abbeyfield commented on the sponsorship "as governors we are very excited about Abbeyfield's future. We chose The Education Fellowship as they work in partnership with schools and bring with them great expertise in the field of school development as well as support from a wide range of national institutions including universities and businesses. The Education Fellowship value the importance of schools maintaining their distinctive character and the governing body believe this is important”.
Academic achievement, music, the arts, sports, ICT and preparation for further education are a priority for TEF and they hope to see every child enjoying an all round education at Abbeyfield.

Abbeyfield School held its Awards and Prize Giving evening on Thursday with guest speaker Mr Tim Hollingsworth the CEO of the British Paralympic Association and special guest Paralympic swimmer Miss Stephanie Millward.
Mr Hollingsworth encouraged the students to refocus on their future goals after excellent exam success in 2012 just as the British Paralympic team are now moving their focus to the Winter Paralympic Games next year and the Olympics in Rio in 2016. Miss Millward spent time talking to students about her Olympic experience and having photographs with her and her Olympic Medals.
The presentation ceremony was faultlessly managed by the Head Boy and Head Girl, Alex Hallam and Charlotte Richardson with insightful citations being delivered by members of the teaching staff.
In school the next morning, one of the trophy winners, Katie Duncan (The Alan Roberts Award for Science) stopped a teacher and said “I was so pleased. My mum has put the trophy above our fire place and we can’t stop talking about it”.

SCHOOL CLOSED FRIDAY 18TH JANUARY 2013
School closed today, Friday 18th January 2013, due to bad weather. The school is open only for students taking exams. For updates, please follow @abbeyfieldhead on Twitter or listen to BBC Wiltshire (live online) during the breakfast show.
After assessing the current weather situation, and the up to date forecast for this morning, in consultation with the other schools in Chippenham, I have made the decision to close the school today. This is due the extremely hazardous conditions for the travel to school period and because the forecast heavy snow would make it impossible to keep the site safe for staff and pupils.
I am also concerned that, in worsening weather conditions, if school was open students may not then be able to get home safely.
I know that closing the school has a significant impact on parents, and I do not make this decision lightly, but the students' safety to me is paramount.
The students taking public examinations should come to school as advised. Our site staff will try to keep a path clear from that entrance to the Main Reception, but please take extreme care.
Arrangements have been made to clear the snow once it has stopped in anticipation of opening again on Monday, however if there are any changes I will let you know on the website.
